This is arguably one of the most famous strains of all time. It was featured in High times Magazine and has won the Cannabis cup in 1995. Anyone who’s smoked up before is very likely to have heard of this strain and fantasized about its outstanding qualities. White Widow strain was originally bred from a cross between a Brazillian Sativa landrace and an Southern India Indica-heavy landrace. Makings for a very delightful Sativa Dominant hybrid strain. This strain has also been known as the Black Widow strain on some green house seeds sites.

It’s stark-white buds act as a warning for the overwhelming potency it harbors. This strain is not for the beginner as it has one of the highest average THC contents of all the strains in the world. High on the resin production makes it a great strain for distilling also. Really doesn’t need to be said, but you don’t get weed that’s much better than this. What Is White Widow?

While the exact lineage of white widow is hotly debated, it is frequently cited as a descendant of an Indian Indica Landrace and a Brazilian Sativa Landrace. This would make it a hybrid of the two but user and grower reports often describe it as indica leaning.
White Widow is a mysterious strain with multiple stories as to where it came from. What we do know is that it showed up in the nineties and left an impact still felt today. White widow is easy to grow, has good yield, and finishes quickly. Perfect for growing in temperate coastal climates.

Is Every White Widow Plant The Same?

Do you have any siblins? Do they look and act exactly like you?
Unless you are a monozygotic twin commonly known as an identical twin, you most certainly look and act at least somewhat different from even your brother or sister.

This is the same with cannabis strains. If you popped a bunch of the same seeds from any one strain you would see multiple plants with different characteristics growing. Having said that, by using certain strategies over time, a good breeder can funnel this genetic diversity within the strain’s lineage to promote certain characteristics like bigger buds, more cannabinoids, mold resistance, etc. This can narrow down the differences but will not eliminate them.

This is how great hybrid plants are made and white widow is no exception.

Are All White Widow Strains Indica Dominant?

While white widow tends to be bred to be more indica dominant, there is no reason a sativa leaning phenotype could not come from a White Widow seed. You would not get a pure sativa, but it could definitely lean that way and be bred to enhance the sativa-like characteristic.

In summary, not all White Widow seeds are going to come out indica dominant. Therefore not all white widow strains are indica dominant but a vast majority are.
